Quo by Orly Color Amp’d Nail Polish

Have you heard of Quo by Orly Color Amp’d nail polish? I recently learned about them and am really excited about this line of bold drugstore polishes.

I have about a dozen Orly nail polishes and I really love them all. The brand has such a great formula, interesting colours, and a rubberized cap that I really like to use. They aren’t super easy to get in Canada so I only have a few, but recently I was introduced to the new line of Quo by Orly Color Amp’d polishes, available at Shopper’s Drug Mart, which offer the same features that I loved about the original Orly brand. Great formula, interesting colour options, and a rubberized cap that makes it one of my favourite polish bottles!

The Quo by Orly Color Amp’d line is new to me but this brand has been around for quite some time. If you take a minute to Google the brand, it comes up with some really stunning shades including neons and unique colours that I haven’t seen elsewhere. I’m pretty impressed with the colour range and pigmentation of the ones I have seen and used so far.

My very first Makeup Geek Eye Shadows

I have heard so many great things about Makeup Geek eye shadows over the past few years but have never gotten around to ordering or trying any myself. I have loaded my cart online many times, but never actually made the purchase to try them. I was lucky enough to win a generous giveaway from the lovely Julie at Swatch and Review, coincidentally in the same week that I won the Raincouver Beauty Essence Prize Pack as well. I must have been super lucky that week!

August Ipsy Glam Bag

This is my second Ipsy Glam Bag ever and I am really happy with it. I had mixed feelings on my first box, which I reviewed here, but I think I like my August Ipsy Glam Bag much better than my last month’s one. This month the bag was illustrated by Ipsy founder Michelle Phan in a dreamy makeup-lover style. I love the design of the bag this month and the products I got are really neat and all items I would definitely use and be interested in regularly.

The items I got in my August Ipsy Glam Bag are the following:

  • Lord&Berry Maximatte Crayon Lipstick
  • Beauty For Real I-Line 24-7 Eyeliner
  • Josie Maran Whipped Mud Mask
  • Organic Surge Perfecting Face Polish
  • NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator
All of the items included in my August Ipsy Glam Bag

I have always wanted to try Josie Maran masks so this was a really exciting product to find in my bag. I also love all the NYX items I have tried so far and have been eyeing these liquid highlighters for a while now so that was great. I can always use an eyeliner so that was handy, and I love matte lipsticks so this Lord&Berry one will be really fun to try out. I have never even heard of Lord&Berry, Organic Surge, or Beauty For Real so it is neat to get new brands to try out in my August Ipsy Glam Bag.

Overall I like a lot of the items in this bag, and am glad to check out some new to me brands. I like that I got some classic products that I know I will use, such as a matte lippie, eyeliner, and highlighter, as well as some more special items like masks and face polish. The combination of everyday items and special items in this August Ipsy Glam Bag make me very happy with it and I already am looking forward to my next bag!

Maybelline New York LipStudio Color Jolt Intense Lip Paint in Fight Me Fuchsia

Being a big fan of liquid lipstick I knew that the new Maybelline New York LipStudio Color Jolt Intense Lip Paints were a must-try for me. I love anything smooth and silky that applies as a liquid and then stays on without hassle, and these do just that! These lip paints come in a cute little squeeze tube with a soft applicator tip to help you apply the bold colours. The shade I am showing you today is called Fight Me Fuchsia, and it is a stunning hot pink.

I recently talked about my 3 most used lipsticks in the last month, and I was hoping to find something new so I could give those a break. This bold pink lip paint is a great option to finish out the summer with and I can totally see myself wearing Fight Me Fuchsia on the regular.

Maybelline New York LipStudio Color Jolt Intense Lip Paint

These Maybelline New York Color Jolt Lip Paints are super silky and wet, and come out of the tube as pure liquid. I loved using the applicator tip to apply the colour and it helped me work it into the exact opacity I wanted. Fight Me Fuchsia is a highly pigmented shade so I had to be careful with my application. I started with a lighter coat all over and then added a bit more for a bolder colour, and I found that worked much better than trying to apply a thicker layer all at once.

Word of warning – be careful how much you squeeze out of the tip because you don’t want to end up with a big goop of lip colour and nowhere to put it. A light squeeze will still send a lot of product up to the applicator.

Read on to see the swatch and learn more about this lippie!

My Most Loved Lipsticks in July

Over the last few weeks I keep noticing that I am using the same makeup products over and over, and keep trying to remind myself to branch out. I have been doing well with that lately by using up some new eye shadows palettes and working on my panning progress, but I still seem to be stuck in a rut with my lipsticks. I keep wearing the same few producst on a daily basis, and I wanted to take note of what my most loved lipsticks in July were, in hopes that I can give them a break for August and start wearing some new ones.

My 3 most loved lipsticks in July from top to bottom: Revlon HD Addiction, Maybelline Cherry On Top, and Maybelline Spice It Up

My top 3 most loved lipsticks in July

Maybelline New York Color Whisper in Cherry On Top: This semi-sheer pink lipstick is so smooth and light. I love how bright the pink colour is even though it feels like a lip balm on my lips. You can layer it to build a bolder colour but I usually stick to one coat and still get a great shade of pink. It isn’t heavy or sticky at all, and it offers a huge punch of colour in just one swipe. This one lives in my work bag and I keep reaching for it as I run out the door. It is pretty moisturizing and keeps my lips soft and smooth.  Out of my most loved lipsticks in July, this one is probably the one that gets the most frequent use.

Revlon Ultra HD Matte LipColor in HD Addiction: I wrote about this lipstick a while ago and I still love it just as much. This matte magenta berry shade is super light and airy. I love the formula of this and it has a nice scent as well. This one is a deeper berry colour but it still works really well for everyday wear and it also lives in my work bag. The formula is really great and the colour lasts for hours without fading.

Maybelline New York Baby Lips in Spice It Up: I love the Baby Lips line and this is no exception. This one is a bit of a deeper red shade that is more opaque than other Baby Lips, but still applies like the traditional Baby Lips balms. It is soft and moisturising like a clear balm but it brings a pop of colour in a creamy finish. I like the opacity and colour of this red combined with the ease of application and balm-like formula.

Swatches of my 3 most loved lipsticks in July from L-R: Revlon HD Addiction, Maybelline Cherry On Top, and Maybelline Spice It Up

All three of my most loved lipsticks in July seem to be similar in texture, as they all are smooth and similar to balms. They are all light formulas and seem to be low maintenance one swipe wonders. I think with the crazy heat this summer and the busy days I have, this is the easiest way to throw on a quick pop of lipstick without and hassle. In this sweltering heat I don’t have the energy or time to be applying intense liquid lipstick, vampy shades that may melt or bleed, or worrying about having dry lips. All of my most loved lipsticks in July are moisturizing and smooth formulas with an easy application.

As much as I loved all of these easy lipstick picks I definitely do miss some of my higher maintenance makeup items. I think once the weather cools down and I don’t feel like I’m dripping sweat walking to work I might start going back to some of my liquid lipsticks and darker colours. I look forward to bolder lip looks in the Fall and can’t wait to see what will become my most loved lipsticks next month.

Julep Maven August Box

Last month I skipped my Julep Maven box because I wasn’t super interested in the products, but this month I got back into it. I chose all of the items in my Julep Maven August box, and am really pleased with it. I chose two holographic polishes and another one of the Skip The Brush Stick in the shade Passionfruit.

My Julep Maven August Box

My Julep Maven August Box

The two holographic nail polishes I chose for my Julep Maven August box are Zori, a pale pink holographic shade, and Stephanie, a bright cherry red holographic glitter. I don’t have any holo polishes in these colours so I was really excited to get these. Zori is much more holographic than Stephanie, but in the right lights Stephanie can really shine too.

Look at the stunning holo shade Zori! It’s so pretty and has such a beautiful rainbow of colour going through it. Stephanie has more subtle holo flecks but they show up a little stronger in real life. Holo is super hard to capture on camera!

I specifically chose another Skip The Brush Creme to Powder Blush Stick because I really like the one I got in my June Julep Maven box, which you can check out here. I chose the shade Passionfruit because it would be a good blush hue for my tanned skin. Passionfruit is a warm deep berry shade with flecks of shimmer throughout it. In the swatch below it is just a plain swipe of product on the left and blended out on the right.

Overall I am quite pleased with my Julep Maven August box. 2 great holographic nail polish colours and a cream to powder blush stick will be perfect to help me finish off the summer.

Essence Cosmetics Prize Pack

Good morning and happy Monday! I have a super short week ahead of me because I leave for the cottage on Wednesday and get to spend a whole week away! I am really excited and hoping for some good weather to enjoy my time off. In the meantime I have scheduled some fun blog posts for you, starting with this one today. I recently got the great news that I won a giveaway hosted by the amazing Angela over at Raincouver Beauty! I am a huge fan of hers, and she was celebrating 1000 followers on Instagram which is a really impressive milestone. Somehow I must have been super lucky that day because I won one of her generous prizes – the Essence Cosmetics Prize Pack.

All of the goodies in my Essence Cosmetics Prize Pack!

All of the goodies in my Essence Cosmetics Prize Pack!

I was really excited about this prize because I already know the brand quite well and have enjoyed almost everything I have ever tried by Essence Cosmetics. One of my favourite mascaras ever is the Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara which I reviewed a long time ago.

The Essence Cosmetics prize pack came in a cute clear makeup bag which I will actually be using to go to the cottage this week. The bag was full of some really neat looking items and it was fun to check them all out. Aside from the nail polish and the liquid eyeliner everything else was new to me. I didn’t even know that Essence Cosmetics made a makeup setting spray or lip oil so those were extra interesting to find. The Essence Pure Nude Highlighter is pretty much screaming my name and I can’t wait to use it.

There was a ton of makeup goodies in this prize pack and I am really looking forward to playing with every item and hopefully reviewing some of it soon. Thank you again Angela for the the amazing Essence Cosmetics prize pack, and congratulations on such a milestone with Raincouver Beauty!

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nude Lipsticks

Last week I showed you one of my favourite nail polishes for any season, the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Liya’s Nude nail polish, from the nude collection with some of the famous L’Oreal spokeswomen. Today I have 4 of the coordinating lipstick shades to show you, including Liya’s Nude lipstick. All four of these L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche nude lipsticks are very different in colour, which shows you how the word nude can be really confusing when it comes to different skin tones.

L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nude Lipsticks by Doutzen, Liya, Eva, and Freida

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nude Lipsticks by Doutzen, Liya, Eva, and Freida

This is an older collection but the idea still rings true – in fact L’Oreal Paris recently released a pink collection that offers different pink lipsticks suited to some of their famous spokesmodels.

The four shades I am swatching today are from four incredible women: Doutzen Kroes, Liya Kebede, Eva Longoria, and Freida Pinto. It is fascinating to me to look at all four of these L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche nude lipsticks on my own skin and see the massive differences. There are actually two more lipstick shades from this collection, which are by Julianne Moore and J.Lo, and the J.Lo one is the one that suits my skin tone the most. I actually had that one as well but my boyfriend’s mother really loved the colour so I gave it to her.

You can see clearly that the lightest shade by Doutzen is much more pink hues and would be suited to her fair skin and blond hair. Eva’s Nude is much more suitable for my olive skin and dark hair, while Liya’s Nude would be quite dark on me. Out of these four shades Eva’s Nude and Freida’s Nude lipsticks are the ones I prefer for my colouring, however all of the lipsticks are really smooth and have good pigment. When I am in the mood for a little retro 90’s brown lipstick look then Liya’s Nude works great on me.

Overall the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche nude lipsticks are really great idea because it offers a range of nude hues to suit different skin tones which is important. Nude is not a colour, and it can’t be defined the same way for all women, so the variety in these lipsticks is really helpful.

If you are looking for a nude lipstick to suit your skin tone, or even a pink lipstick, these L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche lipstick collections are a great place to look for your next perfect shade.

Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box

Today I have a really old eye shadow palette to show you. This is the Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box, which was originally released way back in the day. Quite a few years ago.  I don’t remember when I bought it, but I know I got it on sale at Sephora and it was one of the very first Urban Decay products I ever bought. Another old Urban Decay palette that I love is the Urban Decay Smoked palette, which I reviewed here.

Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box

Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box

The Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box is full of 9 incredible shadows that have such a silky feel. The formula on these is incredible, even after how long I have had it, and the pigment on all of the shades is so nice. There are 3 neutral hues and 6 bold colours in this cute little box, and it came with two little eye shadow sponges and a mini Urban Decay Primer Potion. I have long since used up the primer, but the shadows have been taking a back seat for the last few months/years.

The Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box

The Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box

The Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box is by far the most unique and bright palette I own. The 6 bold shades are the most different from my normal makeup collection. The variety of original shades in this palette are super colourful and the only real neon shades I own in my entire makeup collection.

Read on for details on each eye shadow and more photos, including swatches!

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Liya’s Nude Nail Polish

I have a beautiful mauve/grey nail polish to show you that is a total staple in my nail polish collection all year round. The L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Liya’s Nude nail polish is part of the nude collection from a few years ago that focused on nude shades of lipstick and nail polish to match some of the L’Oreal Spokesmodels. There were a variety of different tones to coincide with the different women’s skin tones. They were all great colours but Liya’s Nude nail polish is the one I reach for most often.

L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Liya's Nude nail polish

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Liya’s Nude

Liya Kebede is an actress, model, and designer that shares the spokesmodel role with other famous beauties such as Blake Lively, Eva Longoria, J.Lo, and many more.

Liya’s Nude nail polish is a medium toned mauve/grey that has the perfect balance between a dusty purple and greige hue. The formula is super smooth and applies like a dream. I love the brush that goes with this polish too, and it makes it so nice to work with. I can get great coverage and shine with just two coats.

L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Liya's Nude nail polish

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Liya’s Nude

I think that Liya’s Nude nail polish works for summer, winter, and everything in between. It definitely fits into the neutral category and isn’t anything too crazy, but it has something different and cool to it that adds a little edge. I really love the colour and the formula, and for an affordable drugstore nail polish this one is a really great option.

If Liya’s Nude nail polish isn’t the right shade for you there are also nude hues suited to other skin tones in honour of the other spokeswomen, so be sure to check them out! There is also a more recent collection with pink tones in both lipstick and nail polish for many of the spokeswomen.
