Drugstore Fave! Essence Lash Princess False Effect Mascara

A long time ago I posted about my first Essence Cosmetics mascara – the Lash Princess Volume Mascara – and I absolutely loved it. It was $5 at the drugstore and performed amazingly well. I was blown away by the product and decided to try out a very similar item when I recently finished my mascara. This time I went with the sister mascara – the Essence Lash Princess False Effect Mascara. This is also only $5 and has the same cute corset design that drew me to the first one.

Essentially the two mascaras look like twins. One has orange text and design and the other has light green. They look so similar on the outside so I was super curious to see if they performed the same. I did notice one huge difference between these two mascaras. The brushes are totally different with the Essence Lash Princess Volume version being curved and the Essence Lash Princess False Effect mascara having a straight brush.

In terms of formula and application I find that the Essence Lash Princess False Effect Mascara is pretty foolproof. It has a smooth formula that glides onto lashes and it isn’t to watery or too thick. The colour is a perfect crisp black and I only need one coat to get great results. It doesn’t smudge or flake at all (at least on me) and it wears well all day long.

In order to show you the true impact of the mascara I did not curl my lashes so what you see in the photo is just the mascara on my bare lashes. You can see in the before shot that my bare lashes are nearly non-existent, so all of the length, definition, and volume comes from the mascara.

The results of this super affordable drugstore mascara are almost identical to the results I got with the twin product. The Essence Lash Princess False Effect mascara does not give very different lashes than the Lash Princess Volume version, but the results are still amazing. For under $5 I am thrilled with how long and full my eyelashes look. I can swipe on one coat of this mascara and look wide-awake and bright eyed in no time.

I do have to note that the CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro mascara gave me slightly more in terms of length and separation, but it is almost double the price of the Essence options. The difference is quite small so for the bug price drop and ease of application I think I will stick with the Essence Lash Princess False Effect mascara for now.

Do you have any other recommendations for a great drugstore mascara? I’d love to hear them so be sure to let me know in the comments!

  • I tried a couple of other Essence mascaras (purple and pink tubes) and they were just ok. I was eyeing these ones because a few other bloggers mentioned they were good. Plus, the corset packaging is so cute (reminds me a bit of Anna Sui). And so well priced too!
I’m a big fan of the CoverGirl LashBlast Volume (orange tube) and Maybelline Lash Sensational – have you tried them?

    • I really like Lash Sensational a lot but I didn’t find Clump Crusher really wowed me.. Maybe I should try it again though because people seem to rave about it!

These two Lash Princess ones are the only Essence mascaras I have found that I like so far.
