Tarte Tarteist Treats set from Sephora

This is my very first Tarte palette and my whole beauty world is changed. I completely see why everyone adores the Tarte palettes! I just got the Tarte Tarteist Treats Set from Sephora and it includes the Tarte Pro To Go palette, a deluxe mini Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint, and deluxe mini Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara.

This set was $33 Canadian, and the Tarte Pro to Go Palette alone is $30, so I got the mini mascara and lip paint for only $3. Plus I had a Sephora gift card so I got this trio for an awesome deal. I have been dying to try Tarte eyeshadow because everyone raves about it and the palettes are so popular. I can totally see why now, and after using the Tarte Pro to Go palette I am completely sold!

The Tarte Pro to Go palette is my favourite item of the three included in the Tarte Tarteist Treats Set. This palette is small but it packs a shimmery punch. There are six shades, with three being matte and the other three shimmer.

I am blown away by the shimmer shades. They are super intensely pigmented with an amazing shimmer that makes them look almost like liquid metal. I love all three of them. I also really like the matte shades, which are also quite smooth and buttery, although I found Drive to be the driest of them all. Overall the six eyeshadows in this palette have an incredible formula and very strongly pigmented colours. I am so impressed!

The min Lip Paint is another item I really like, and since I just raved about the Matte Lip Paint called Vibin that I got in my Ipsy bag, it was great to try out the glossy alternative. The shade included in the Tarte Tarteist Treats Set is called WCW and is a lovely berry hue. I always love berry shades on my skin tone and this is no exception. It has a nice light formula and does not feel sticky. It seems more creamy than glossy to me, which I actually like. It has a sleek and shiny glossy look but not a super wet glossy look.

As for the mascara, the Tarteist Lash Paint mascara, this is one of Tarte’s top mascaras. I have yet to try it since I have a few other open mascaras at the moment, but I really look forward to checking it out and reviewing it later on.

Overall I think the Tarte Tarteist Treats Set was an awesome deal and totally worth it. I am already in love with the Tarte eyeshadow formula and shimmer shades in the Pro to Go palette, and the WCW Lip Paint is beautiful. If you are looking for a way to get into Tarte and try out a few products this set is a great choice!

March Beauty Favourites

Today I want to show you a few of my favourite products from the month of March. These are the items I have been using most often over the last few weeks and a few things I’ve recently added to my collection or rediscovered in my collection. Check out my March beauty favourites below!

My March beauty favourites

My March beauty favourites

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Skin Transforming Powder: I’ve been on the hunt for a foundation that I really like and have had such a hard time finding one. After almost a month of trying different ones and not getting the results I want I ended up going back to this Maybelline powder and I’m so happy with it. I started using this a while ago and posted all about it. I really love it because it’s the perfect colour match, it feels great to wear, it’s light, and it has salicylic acid. I may keep searching for that perfect foundation but in the meantime I love that I have this favourite to fall back on.

Quo Matte Bronzer in Light Tan: This is a new favourite but ever since I got it a few weeks ago I have been using it almost every day. I love the light formula the matte finish in the shade is perfect for a slight warmth I can add to my face. You can see my original post on it here.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal: I got this famous highlighter a long time ago in a Sephora Favorites box and I liked it at the time but never really reached for it. A few weeks ago I decided to grab it again and it quickly became one of my March beauty favorites. I love the glow it adds to my skin and it really is noticeable even though it’s subtle. I don’t know if that makes sense but it seems like such a small item to add to my routine in the morning but throughout the day when I catch myself in the mirror I love the shimmer it delivers. On a regular day with my basic work makeup, or on a night out with a more glam look, using this Becca highlighter really adds something special. Even my boyfriend notices when I wear it because he says I look “extra glowy“.

Swatches of some of my March beauty favourites from L-R: Tarte Lip Paint, Ciate London Liquid Velvet, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector, and ColourPop Super Shock Shadow

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Un: This is the shade that I got quite a while back and I loved it when I first got it but it kind of fell to the side. Recently I wanted a slight shimmery wash of shadow for an every day look and this is what I chose. Since then I have been wearing it multiple times per week as a single shadow across my lids to brighten my eyes. It takes almost no time or effort to apply but it really makes a difference to wear ColourPop Un on my lids instead of no shadow at all. This is a great single shadow to throw on quickly and I’ve been loving this as one of my March beauty favourites.

Tarte Tartiest Lip Paint in Vibin: I just got this in my March Ipsy bag and have been absolutely loving it ever cents. I’ve worn it multiple times and I love the light formula, I love the brick red colour, and I love how it feels like I’m wearing nothing even though I have a bold lip shade on. This Tarte Lip paint has quickly become one of my favourite liquid lipsticks that I own, and considering how many I have that is a big deal!

Ciate London Liquid Velvet in Pin Up: This is another liquid lipstick but I’ve been really love it it’s a lighter shade and almost MLBB but more pink. Just like the Tarte one this has a great formula and feels super light to wear. I get so many compliments on this colour as an every day lip look. I got this from an older Ipsy Bag but only recently reached for it.

Overall these six products are my March beauty favourites and I have been reaching for them very often this past month. I like that some of them are newer items and some are older ones I rediscovered in my stash. I love coming back to an old favourite or something that I haven’t used in a while and many of these are great examples of that.

I will definitely be continuing to use these going forward but at the same time I am looking forward to seeing what other products I will be reaching for during the month of April!

My Travel Beauty Bag: What I took on my weekend getaway

Happy Monday! Instead of being at work today I am off on a mini getaway with my BF. We like to take small 2 or 3 day trips just to have an adventure and do something special, so we left yesterday for a let weekend getaway. Of course I had to bring a variety of outfits and makeup for all our activities, so I thought I would share what I like to pack in my travel beauty bag for a weekend getaway!

Since I knew there would be a mix of indoor and outdoor activities (including fancy dinners and mini golf!) I had to pack versatile items that could work for all occasions. I love my double-duty products that save space and work for multiple uses.

A look at what beauty products I take in my travel beauty bag!

My February Ipsy Glam Bag

I haven’t posted about my Ipsy Glam Bags in quite a while since I have been so busy but I finally got back into it with my bag this month. I am pretty happy with the items I got in my February 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag, although I am not very excited about the bag itself. Let’s take a look at what products I got this month!

The bag itself is a pretty basic style. It is a denim bag with neon orange lining and border, which is alright but definitely not February themed in any way. They could have gone with a Valentine theme, anything red, even something Winter themed. But neon orange and denim? That seems way more summer fun to me. Either way, I like the contents of my February 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag so I can ignore the bag itself.

What did I get in the February 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag?

This was an odd month for sizes of products because if you look at what I got nearly every item is full size. I can’t remember the last time that happened but I love that it did. This is awesome to get almost an entire bag of full size items for such a low subscription price, and all of the items are really cool.

The items I got this month include the following:

  • NYX Butter Lipstick in the shade Lifeguard (full size)
  • BellaPierre Cosmetics VolumelashWaterproof Mascara  (full size)
  • Biobelle Sheet Masks (2 full size single use masks)
  • IBY Beauty Highlighter in the shade Bubbly (sample size)
  • LAW Beauty Essentials Nail Polish in the shade Leave A Text (full size)

The full size lipstick is a super creamy bold red that is quite popular. I have heard many rave reviews about the NYX Butter Lipsticks and have yet to try one myself, so this was fun to get in my bag. I love bold red shades (have you seen my Instagram post with 15 red lipsticks?) so adding one more to my collection is perfect for me.

The full size waterproof mascara is another neat item to have in my bag. I love mascaras in general but I never ever buy waterproof formulas. Every once in a while I need one, especially in summer or on vacations, so this will be a good item to store until that time comes.

The sheet masks are pretty cool. I have never heard of Biobelle before but I love masks and I know how trendy they are lately. Sheet masks are a nice change from my usual LUSH masks or other creamy ones, so these will be nice to try out on a relaxing evening soon.

The IBY Beauty highlighter looks like a nice colour and I definitely will try it soon. I am trying to get more into highlighting and using more face products instead of just focusing on lipstick (like I have the last few weeks). I am looking forward to putting this to good use soon and getting some glowy shimmering cheekbones!

Overall I am very happy with this month’s bag and look forward to see what I get in March!

Too Faced Mystery Bag 2016: Unboxing and Review

I had a little bit of a shipping issue with my recent Too Faced order so this is coming in a little late. You may have seen it by now but this is the Too Faced Mystery Bag 2016. This bag was offered on Black Friday and was $49 CAD. The shipping and international fees were pretty crazy (over $20 each) but I had a discount code for Too Faced and it got me the bag plus all shipping/fees for $63. Still kind of pricey for a mystery bag but the brand claimed it would be worth over $100 in products.

Let’s take a look at the items included in the Too Faced Mystery Bag 2016!

My November Ipsy Glam Bag

I always find that I get my Ipsy bag much later than everyone else online, but none the less here it is. My November Ipsy Glam Bag has some great finds in it, and I got a really good value this month. There was recently an update of the Ipsy quiz so I don’t know if that changed what I got but I am pretty pleased with the items in this month’s bag.

The bag itself has a cute starry print with little designs of makeup compacts, brushes, lipstick, and more. It looks really cute and has a foamy type of fabric which is different than past bags. If you’re curious about past designs you can see my previous bags from October, August, and July.

What did I get in my November Ipsy Glam Bag?

What I got in my November Ipsy Glam Bag

Let’s take a look at what I got this month:

  • Elizabeth Mott Color is Bae Lip Lacquer in Moxie Mauve
  • Bonvivant Botanical Pure Masks
  • Bésame Cosmetics Brightening Vanilla Face Setting Powder
  • Skone Cosmetics Brow Wand Eyebrow Pencil in Chocolate
  • TheBalm Cosmetics Mad Lash Mascara

I am most excited about the Elizabeth Mott Lip Lacquer and the Mad Lash Mascara from TheBalm. They seem like the products most similar to ones I would buy for myself. I have heard a lot about the Vanilla Face Setting Powder as well so I am curious to check it out. The masks are also a great addition to my November Ipsy Glam Bag and it is awesome that I got three different ones that counted as one item.

The Bonivant Botanical Pure Masks I got in the bag are the Chamomile + Tea Tree Mask, the Sodium Hyaluronate + Lotus Mask, and the Collagen + Olive Mask. These should be fun to check out when I get some time to relax!

Overall this bag is much different than my previous bags but I like the variety included. From mascara to brows, lips, and masks, this bag has a little bit of everything.

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Feline Mascara

Today I have a mascara review and some before/after photos to show you. I love trying new mascaras and have had some great success with drugstore ones lately, including the Essence Lash Princess Mascara and the CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara. I have found some I really love but there are also some that don’t seem to do a lot for my lashes. Today I have one that lands right in the middle. The L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Feline Mascara is the latest mascara I have tried and while it isn’t bad, it just doesn’t blow me away.

July Ipsy Glam Bag Unboxing and Review

I have always been curious about the Ipsy beauty subscription service but never bought into it until recently. I decided to finally give it a shot when I saw a promo code online, and a few days ago my July Ipsy Glam Bag arrived. I have tried a few other beauty subscription boxes over the past few years and right now the Julep Maven one is my favourite. Julep boxes only have Julep brand items, where as the Ipsy bags come with a range of beauty brands.

One interesting thing to note about my July Ipsy Glam Bag is that when I went online for the last few days it showed me the products I was supposed to be getting in my bag, but when the bag arrived they were almost all wrong. I was actually happier with the items I got than I would have been with the ones they said online, but I found it strange that the information was so different. I just went online today (after the bag had been delivered) and they were all correct again, like they had been updated to match the bag I actually got. So strange.

Read on to see more photos and check out my review of the items I got this month!

CoverGirl Katy Kat Eye Mascara in Perry Blue

I have always loved the look of coloured mascara but it seems hard to show up on my dark lashes. I have tried a few in the past that delivered little colour, or very faint colours, but nothing that really wowed me and stood out over my dark lashes. Recently I spotted the CoverGirl Katy Kat Eye Mascara and knew that I have to give it a shot. I really liked the demi-matte lipstick from the CoverGirl Katy Perry line, which I reviewed here, so I was hoping this mascara would be just as good. The shade I chose was the bright blue, called Perry Blue. It actually only comes in this shade and two black hues, but I am glad to see a coloured option.

CoverGirl Katy Kat Eye Mascara

CoverGirl Katy Kat Eye Mascara

The CoverGirl Katy Kat Eye Mascara has a chic clean white tube that I love. I loved the lipstick packaging for the same reason, and this mascara is just as cool. Aside from the bold packaging, it has a really cool brush too. The brush on this mascara is rounded with a little spiral to it and I actually quite liked it. This mascara is advertised to give you dark and full lashes with 10x the volume, but I never really believe the 10x or big claims like that. All I want is a nice fringe and some bright blue colour.

Review: CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara

After falling in love with the recent CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick launch I knew my next post would have to be this one. A while ago I bought the CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara and although the brush looks pretty intimidating I was dying to try it. I didn’t pull out a protractor to measure the claim of 50% more volume, but this mascara really did deliver on long, lush lashes.

The unique brush of the CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara

The unique brush of the CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara

The CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara has one of the funkiest brushes you will ever see. It is super stiff and has all kinds of turns and angles which can be dangerous when working so close to your eyes. I have poked myself once or twice with this wand but if you are careful with it you can work magic. Like I said, it is is super stiff and the bristles are hard plastic, but they divide and conquer lashes with ease. I got tons of length and definition with this funky wand and I really love the result.
