Sephora Favorites Summer Essentials 2017 Kit

Today I have a really fun summer beauty kit to show you. I recently spotted this on the Sephora app and website, but it sold out really quickly so I put it out of my mind. This kit is the Sephora Favorites Summer Essentials 2017 Kit, which features 11 deluxe mini size products and one full size for only $33 Canadian. I was in a Sephora the other day in another town, and happened to see this kit on the shelf and I had store credit burning a hole in my wallet, so it seemed like the perfect combination.

Sephora Favorites Summer Essential 2017 Kit

Sephora Favorites Summer Essential 2017 Kit

The Sephora Favorites Summer Essentials 2017 Kit has a range of product types, from skincare to body to makeup. There are 12 different items, all deluxe mini sizes, and they are a variety of brands. Some of them are higher end brands I have never tried, and others are classics. Out of all 12 of the actual products I have never tried any of them so that was a bit factor in the appeal of this kit.

Products in the Sephora Favorites Summer Essential 2017 Kit

Products in the Sephora Favorites Summer Essential 2017 Kit

The products in the Sephora Favorites Summer Essentials 2017 Kit are the following:
– 1.7 oz/ 50 mL Bumble and bumble Surf Spray
– 1.7 oz/ 50 mL Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray
– 0.14 oz/ 4 g Estee Edit Pore Vanishing Stick
– 0.5 oz/ 14.8 mL First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair® Lip Therapy (Full Size)
– 0.5 oz/ 14.8 mL Origins A Perfect World SPF 40 Age-Defense Moisturizer with White Tea
– 0.24 oz/ 7 mL Glamglow Glowstarter™ Mega Illuminating Moisturizer
– 0.25 oz/ 7.5 mL Murad Hydro-Dynamic® Ultimate Moisture
– 0.23 oz/ 7 mL Tarte TarteGuard Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30
– 0.6 oz/ 15 mL Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream SPF 40
– 0.81 oz/ 24 mL Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream
– 0.5 oz/ 14.8 mL Tarte Brazilliance™ Plus+ Self Tanner
– 0.24 oz/ 7 mL Vita Liberata Body Blur Instant HD Skin Finish

I tend to break these kits down into three categories. The first set is the items I am super excited about and was already curious about, researching, and even potentially going to purchase before the kit. The second batch is the middle items, which are nice to have and cool to check out but I wasn’t actively seeking them before the kit. The third group are the ones I never would have checked out if they weren’t included, but being the beauty blogger I am, I will try anything once.

The 4 items I was most excited for in this kit!

With those three groups in mind let’s take a look at group one – the items I was already interested in! I have always been curious about the Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray for some beachy waves. I remember researching it a few years ago and just never bringing myself to buy it, so this is a long time coming that I finally get to try it. I am also excited about the Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream since I have the Sol De Janeiro Lip Balm and absolutely love it. I also have very dry lips right now, so the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lip Therapy sounds amazing. I love Tarte products and have seen a lot of people talk about the TarteGuard Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion so I was pretty interested in that as well.

More great items in the kit!

The middle group of items includes the Estee Edit Pore Vanishing Stick. I saw this on Sephora’s app recently and debated on if it would be good for my skin and needs. It’s a nice treat to have it included in this set so I can give it a try. The Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray was an awesome surprise in this set, because I have been struggling with super tangly hair lately so this will be great to use.

The Vita Liberata Body Blur Instant HD Skin Finish, GlamGlow Glowstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer, and Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream are all things I hadn’t heard of before but am interested to try out.

The last item in this middle group is the Tarte Self Tanner, since I am naturally pretty tanned and like to be outside in the summer I never really need self-tanning products. I love Tarte though so I will put this aside and check it out in the Fall when I lose my natural tan.

Showing the size of some of the items in my hand

The last group of items are the ones that weren’t even on my radar before I purchased this Sephora Favorites Summer Essentials 2017 Kit. The Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture and Origins A Perfect World SPF 40 Age Defence Moisturizer both target skin concerns I don’t really have (dry or aging skin) but I will test them out anyways out of curiosity.

All in all I think that for $33 CAD this set is a great deal I have four items I was already actively looking into and considering getting, so these deluxe mini sizes are an awesome way to try them before buying a full size. There are six items in my middle group, which means I am very interested in them and glad to see them included in the kit. The last group only has two items, which I will try out anyways even though they aren’t items I normally would pick up. Overall the Sephora Favorites Summer Essentials 2017 Kit has a lot of great brands and some really cool products that I am looking forward to using this season.

LUSH Herbalism

Skincare has always been the one aspect of my beauty routine that I am most hesitant to change. I will try any colour lipstick and wear bright blue mascara on a Tuesday, but it takes a lot of research and concern for me to change my skincare routine. I recently purchased LUSH Herbalism to finally make some changes to my skin, and I am really hoping for good results.

LUSH Herbalism Cleanser

LUSH Herbalism Cleanser

I have used LUSH skincare in the past but it was many years ago and I don’t think I gave it a proper chance. I originally ignored LUSH Herbalism due to the strong vinegar scent, but after a few weeks of researching it I decided I would suck it up and ignore the scent in order to give it a shot. In the past two weeks I have gotten used the smell and don’t hate it anymore. I don’t like it particularly but it doesn’t bother me any longer.

About LUSH Herbalism

LUSH Herbalism is a vegan cleanser made up of ingredients such as ground almond, rice vinegar, and rosemary. It comes in a LUSH black pot and is a crumbly texture. You can check it out on their website here.  The method to use this is to pinch off a bit and mush it up in your hand with warm water to create a grainy paste consistency. It can be a bit messy but I will deal with the mess if it delivers results.

A closer look at LUSH Herbalism

Right now I am just over two weeks into using this, and have noticed a few things in regards to my skin. I use this at least once a day to wash my face, and sometimes twice depending on if I wore makeup. This does not remove makeup which was a big issue for me at first. I like having one products to wash and cleanse and get everything off my face, so it was hard to get used to LUSH Herbalism. I now use this after I remove my makeup at night, and/or in the morning when I wake up (and therefore have no makeup on).

I like the feeling of this cleanser and enjoy the slightly exfoliating feeling of the ground almonds. It leaves my skin soft, smooth, and almost buttery feeling after – but not in a greasy or oily way. I am used to my face feeling super tight after I wash it (with my previous skincare routine) so having this soft feeling after LUSH Herbalism is a pleasant change.

Does it deliver results?

As I mentioned, I am only about two weeks into using this and I have decided to give it a full four week trial. My face feels soft and smooth, however any blemishes or acne I had have not drastically changed. I think I may have slightly better skin and fewer blemishes, and possibly less oily skin, but nothing super noticeable. After a full four weeks I feel like I will have a better time frame to base my review on, so I will keep using LUSH Herbalism and hope I see some great improvements.

For reference I do have a fairly oily t-zone and get minor blemishes and relatively minor acne on a consistent basis. My goal with a new cleanser was to clear up my skin and reduce the oiliness.

Once I finish my full test time of LUSH Herbalism I will be posting my full thoughts, so keep an eye out for that.

Using Up My Beauty and Skincare Samples (#ProjectPan)

Good morning beauties! Today I have a bit of a different post for you. I have decided that I really need to start using up my beauty and skincare samples so I laid them all out and am taking a mini inventory! I realize that I have a ton of products that are just sitting in my sample section, waiting to be used.

Sure, samples are great for travelling – but what if I don’t have anywhere to go? Instead of keeping these forever and letting them wait around I have decided to start using them now.

I know some of these beauty and skincare samples are items I already have used and like, but many are brand new to me. I don’t think I would want to be trying a new face mask or skin cream on a trip anyways, since it could react badly to my skin and end up making it worse. I would rather do my experimenting at home. The few ones I know I like and will use can wait for a trip since they take less space for packing, but anything new or unknown to me has to be used up at home. So far the only ones that I feel confident to travel with are the Smashbox primers and Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I also think I could wing it with the mini Urban Decay Lipstick and Sephora eyeliner pencil since those are pretty generic and I can work with any shade.

Tons of beauty and skincare samples I am going to start using up!

Tons of beauty and skincare samples I am going to start using up!

These photos are what is left of my samples after a mini purge – I set aside a bunch of masks and skincare for my mom and best friend, and took out any foundations that were not my shade. Check out the long list below of all the beauty and skincare samples that I decided to keep.

I tried to organize in a top to bottom/left to right listing so it should be pretty simple to follow along!

Beauty and Skincare Samples Pictured Above:

  • Philosophy Renewed Hope In A Jar Moisturizer
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (x4)
  • Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo
  • Sephora Contour Eye Pencil: Suede Shoes
  • Clinique Superbalanced Silk Makeup Foundation: Silk Sable
  • Too Faced Born This Way Foundation: Sable and Light Beige
  • Caudalie Instant Detox Mask
  • Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer
  • Josie Maran Argan Liquid Gold Self-tanning Face Oil
  • Josie Maran Whipped Mud Mask: Vanilla Apricot
  • Urban Decay Vice Lipstick: Venom
  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid: Peach and Green
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer
  • Sephora 10HR Wear Perfection Foundation: Beige and Walnut
  • The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask
  • The Balm Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow: Matt Kumar
  • Murad Instamatte Oil Control Mask

  • Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eyecolor: Mist, Magnolia, and Purple Dawn
  • Make Up For Ever HD Blush: 410
  • Clarins Rouge Prodige Lipstick: Raspberry Sorbet, Coral Tulip, Red Prodige, and Redwood
  • Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner: Black Ink and Steel Ink
  • Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick: Red Door, Pretty Pink, and Neoclassic

Almost all of these are the samples I get from Sephora orders and some have been sitting around for nearly 6 months. A few items are from subscription boxes and they just snuck in here accidentally, since I usually keep those in separate sections.

I am really excited to start using these up and look forward to trying some new beauty and skincare items. This is kind of a mini start to a panning challenge or#projectpan as I always see on Instagram. I have no idea how long this will take me or if I will discover any new favourites, but I will be keeping you posted along the way! Wish me luck to start making some serious progress on these beauty and skincare samples!

Micellar Water Comparison: Garnier vs Bioderma

I recently discovered the wonders of Micellar Water after totally ignoring the products for months. I used up a small 100ml size of the Bioderma Sebium H20 Micellar Water as my first foray into the product and I fell in love with it. Since the Bioderma brand is much more expensive I decided to try the drugstore favourite from Garnier to compare. Today I have a Micellar Water Comparison between the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water and the Bioderma Sebium H20 Micellar Water.

I absolutely loved the Bioderma Sebium H20 version. It was my first experience with Micellar Water and I totally saw why people have been raving over this product. It changed my skin completely in both the look and feeling of it, and I was thrilled with the product. I wasn’t thrilled with the price tag, as it retails for $26.95 for the 500ml bottle where I am.

I figured that I could try a drugstore version at a fraction of the cost since the Garnier Micellar Water is under $10 for the 400ml bottle. I saw a ton of great reviews online for the Garnier SkinActive version so I was very hopeful, but unfortunately I had the opposite experience.

Bioderma Sebium H20 and Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water

Bioderma Sebium H20 and Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water

Before I get to my personal comparison, I want to talk about the product differences. The Garnier product is much more soapy and bubbly, which you can see in the bottle photos. There are lots of bubbles and when I put it onto a cotton pad it has more of a soapy feel and smell. The Bidoerma one has much less bubbles and almost none come out when I squirt it onto a cotton pad. It also smells more refreshing.

The price difference is very obvious and the Garnier one is much more affordable. It also is easier to find whereas the Bioderma one is available at fewer retailers.

Keep reading to find out what my experience with each of the products was!

My November Ipsy Glam Bag

I always find that I get my Ipsy bag much later than everyone else online, but none the less here it is. My November Ipsy Glam Bag has some great finds in it, and I got a really good value this month. There was recently an update of the Ipsy quiz so I don’t know if that changed what I got but I am pretty pleased with the items in this month’s bag.

The bag itself has a cute starry print with little designs of makeup compacts, brushes, lipstick, and more. It looks really cute and has a foamy type of fabric which is different than past bags. If you’re curious about past designs you can see my previous bags from October, August, and July.

What did I get in my November Ipsy Glam Bag?

November Ipsy Glam Bag

What I got in my November Ipsy Glam Bag

Let’s take a look at what I got this month:

  • Elizabeth Mott Color is Bae Lip Lacquer in Moxie Mauve
  • Bonvivant Botanical Pure Masks
  • Bésame Cosmetics Brightening Vanilla Face Setting Powder
  • Skone Cosmetics Brow Wand Eyebrow Pencil in Chocolate
  • TheBalm Cosmetics Mad Lash Mascara

I am most excited about the Elizabeth Mott Lip Lacquer and the Mad Lash Mascara from TheBalm. They seem like the products most similar to ones I would buy for myself. I have heard a lot about the Vanilla Face Setting Powder as well so I am curious to check it out. The masks are also a great addition to my November Ipsy Glam Bag and it is awesome that I got three different ones that counted as one item.

The Bonivant Botanical Pure Masks I got in the bag are the Chamomile + Tea Tree Mask, the Sodium Hyaluronate + Lotus Mask, and the Collagen + Olive Mask. These should be fun to check out when I get some time to relax!

Overall this bag is much different than my previous bags but I like the variety included. From mascara to brows, lips, and masks, this bag has a little bit of everything.

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Powder

I have been using this powder for a few weeks now and it has quickly turned into a favourite in my makeup bag. The Maybelline New York SuperStay Better Skin Powder has been my everyday base and I love how light it feels but how nicely it covers. I use the shade 50, called Natural Beige, and find it perfect for my skin tone. It leaves my face looking fresh and smooth but almost natural. I definitely don’t look like I am wearing foundation or thick powder and I love that. The Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Powder really surprised me with it’s coverage, formula, and oil-free ingredients.

The Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Powder in shade 50 Natural Beige

I have somewhat oily skin and get blemishes here and there so I don’t feel comfortable going barefaced, but I dislike the feel of heavy or thick liquid foundation. I usually can’t use just powder because my oily skin seeps through, but with this powder it has salicylic acid as an ingredient and I find that helps a lot. Even with a full day of wear I don’t find much oil appearing where it typically does so I am really pleased with that.

I have been pretty impressed with Maybelline products lately, including the Master Precise Curvy Liquid Liner than changed my eyeliner game completely.

Read on to see more about how I use this powder!

7th Heaven Chocolate Mud Masque

At the end of a long weekend there is nothing better than relaxing and getting yourself refreshed for the week ahead. Some people have their ‘me time’ with bubble baths but I always go for a face mask to relax and wind down. I like that they are helping my skin and I always feel super renewed after using one. To close out this past weekend I used one of my favourite masks, the 7th Heaven Chocolate Mud Masque which smells amazing!

The 7th Heaven Chocolate Mud Masque

The 7th Heaven Chocolate Mud Masque

This is an affordable and incredible face mask that brings the spa experience right to your living room for a fraction of the price.

The scent of this mask is so delicious and the feeling it leaves on your skin is amazing. I love 7th Heaven masks because they are pretty natural and I don’t worry about what I am putting on my skin when I use them. The 7th Heaven Chocolate Mud Masque is made of nourishing ingredients including cocoa butter, cocoa beans, and shea butter, so it leaves skin super soft.

Want to know something else awesome about this mask? It is super affordable coming in at $1.99 per mask! I also really like that it comes in a single serving pack because I can take it travelling and just toss it once I use it, instead of fumbling with a container once my hands are all sticky from applying the mask.

With this mask I got to enjoy a yummy scent, smooth creamy mask, and get great refreshing skin as a result. The 7th Heaven Chocolate Mud Masque is a perfect way to end a weekend.

You can purchase this mask, and tons of other ones, on the website here or check out some of the retailers below:

August Ipsy Glam Bag

This is my second Ipsy Glam Bag ever and I am really happy with it. I had mixed feelings on my first box, which I reviewed here, but I think I like my August Ipsy Glam Bag much better than my last month’s one. This month the bag was illustrated by Ipsy founder Michelle Phan in a dreamy makeup-lover style. I love the design of the bag this month and the products I got are really neat and all items I would definitely use and be interested in regularly.

The items I got in my August Ipsy Glam Bag are the following:

  • Josie Maran Whipped Mud Mask
  • Organic Surge Perfecting Face Polish
  • NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator
All of the items included in my August Ipsy Glam Bag

I have always wanted to try Josie Maran masks so this was a really exciting product to find in my bag. I also love all the NYX items I have tried so far and have been eyeing these liquid highlighters for a while now so that was great. I can always use an eyeliner so that was handy, and I love matte lipsticks so this Lord&Berry one will be really fun to try out. I have never even heard of Lord&Berry, Organic Surge, or Beauty For Real so it is neat to get new brands to try out in my August Ipsy Glam Bag.

Overall I like a lot of the items in this bag, and am glad to check out some new to me brands. I like that I got some classic products that I know I will use, such as a matte lippie, eyeliner, and highlighter, as well as some more special items like masks and face polish. The combination of everyday items and special items in this August Ipsy Glam Bag make me very happy with it and I already am looking forward to my next bag!

The Body Shop Summer Tote

I recently ordered my usual face wash and a few skincare items from The Body Shop and I happened to see a promo on for a summer tote with some great products included for $30. In The Body Shop Summer Tote, which is a cute Canadian flag themed bag, I got 8 customer favourite items including a Body Butter and Body Sorbet. The value of the items is $128 and I paid $30 for the items and the cute bag, so I definitely got a deal. I also was going to purchase a Body Sorbet anyways since I just finished my mango one, so this seemed like a good way to get a new one and some other great products. The Body Sorbet alone would have been $16 so basically I bought that and paid and extra $14 for a ton of items.

Everything included in The Body Shop Summer Tote bag,

Everything included in The Body Shop Summer Tote bag

What did I get?

The items included in The Body Shop Summer Tote are as follows:

  • Strawberry Shower Gel, 250ml
  • Shea Body Butter, 200ml
  • Satsuma Body Sorbet, 200ml
  • Satsuma Body Polish, 200ml
  • Hemp Hand Protector, 30ml
  • Vitamin E Moisture Cream, 50ml
  • Camomile Gentle Eye Makeup Remover, 250ml
  • Cream Bath Lily

Out of these items I know I like the Shower Gel, Body Butter, and Body Polish. I love the Satsuma scent so I was really happy about those items, and a Body Polish sounds like a good item for hot summer days. I am always looking for a good hand cream so the Hemp Hand Protector will be nice to try. I am not sure about the Moisturizer or Eye Makeup remover but I will give them a shot. I also love the current Bath Lily that I have so I don’t mind having an extra for when it comes time to replace mine.

Overall I think this was a good deal for some items I already know and love, and a few new things to try. At the end of the day I am already happy with 5 out of the 8 products right off the bat so that is a good deal for $30. The others I look forward to trying soon and will be sure to review. The Body Shop Summer Tote is an online exclusive so be sure to visit thebodyshop.ca to grab one before they are gone!
