Quick Look: Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette

You may have seen my post a few weeks ago about my awesome Shopper’s Optimum Points haul, where I got a ton of makeup including the iconic Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette for free. I had a ton of Optimum points and used them to redeem over $100 of free beauty products and only had to pay the tax of a mere $17. It was the deal of a century and I am still so thrilled that I got the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette for such a low price.

Since getting the gorgeous palette a few weeks ago I have admired it almost every day but was too scared to actually touch it. Its so beautiful and perfect and I was hesitant to mess it up. This week I finally took the plunge and played around with this stunning eye shadow set and I couldn’t be happier.

I have had my Urban Decay Smoked palette for a few years, which I wrote about here, and I absolutely love it, so I had some high expectations for the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette. I know it gets a lot of great reviews and the whole line of Naked palettes are iconic in the beauty world, so going into this I had some high standards set in my head. Spoiler alert: the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette totally delivered!

MAC Velvetease Lip Pencil in Just My Type

Matte lips have been going strong for a while now and it doesn’t look like they are going out of style anytime soon. With summer right around the corner I have a bold hot pink matte lip pencil that is perfect for a bright look. I got the MAC Velvetease Lip Pencil in the hot pink hue called Just My Type a few weeks ago and have been really enjoying it.

MAC Velvetease Lip Pencil in Just My Type

The MAC Velvetease Lip Pencil in Just My Type is a bright pink matte lip colour. It applies super smoothly onto the lips and has a long-lasting formula. I got quite a few hours of wear with this and didn’t have any feathering or fading. Just My Type applies as bright on the lip as it looks in the pencil, but it did need more than one swipe. I built it up with a few swipes on my lips to get a super bold look.

Review: CoverGirl TruNaked Roses Eye Shadow Palette

Okay, aside from the tongue twister name of this product I was really looking forward to trying the CoverGirl TruNaked Roses Eye Shadow Palette. I saw it on sale and happened to have a $1 CoverGirl coupon so I only paid $11.99 instead of the regular $14.99. I had read so much about this and how it has an incredible formula for the eye shadows so I knew I needed to check it out. I also have heard it is similar to the Urban Decay Naked Palettes which I don’t have and probably won’t be spending $50 on anytime soon. I figured this seemed like a good option for something similar, and I was super curious about the creamy powder formula.

CoverGirl TruNaked Roses Eye Shadow Palette

CoverGirl TruNaked Roses Eye Shadow Palette

As soon as I opened it I knew exactly what everyone had been talking about. The hype is real. These eye shadows have a creamy smooth powder formula that feels amazing. They apply like a dream come true and deliver opaque colour with just one swipe. The formula is much smoother than similar palettes, including the Maybelline New York The Nudes one that I really like. I love the colours on that one but the formula is drier. This CoverGirl one is like silk in comparison. It is actually fascinating how it is dry powder but somehow applies like a silky smooth cream. This is definitely my favourite drugstore eye shadow palette out of all the ones I have ever tried.

Julep Brighter is Better Oxygen Brightening Nail Treatment: See the Difference!

Recently I have been really into Julep nail polishes, including the Vivid Sheer ones that I reviewed here. With all the nail polish I have been playing with my nails are definitely not at their brightest and best. Luckily I got a full size bottles of the Julep Brighter is Better Oxygen Brightening Nail Treatment in a recent Julep Maven box. This is a nail treatment that encourages nail growth, brightens yellow nails, and is intended to improve nail health.

In the bottle you can see that the Julep Brighter is Better Oxygen Brightening Nail Treatment has a blue/purple hint to it. It doesn’t show up too strongly on the nails but there is definitely a little bit of a tint. It becomes more or less visible depending on the light but it isn’t noticeable enough to bother me. The formula is a little thinner than nail polish and more watery, so be sure to wipe the brush before applying. It also has a slight lemon scent to it which I didn’t mind.

Review: Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner by LUSH

I used to use a lot of LUSH products and kind of took a break for the past few months, but recently I got back into them. One of the items I picked up was Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner and I am quickly falling in love with it. The rose scent is so good and it makes my showers feel a little more luxurious when I use a product like this.

Lush Ro's Argan Body Conditioner

Lush Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner

This product has a 4.7 out of 5 star review on the LUSH website and it gets a ton of great comments. I just liked the scent of it, and had previously enjoyed using a Nivea in-shower body lotion so this sounded similar. It comes in a typical LUSH pot and I actually preferred that because I was able to scoop out the amount I wanted, whereas the bottled one like the Nivea one made it harder to guess how much I was squeezing out.

Maybelline The Rock Nudes Palette Review and Swatches

After rediscovering the Urban Decay Smoked palette a while ago I noticed that I have a drugstore palette that looked a little similar. The fairly recent launch of the Maybelline The Rock Nudes Palette was a followup to the original Maybelline The Nudes palette. I have seen mixed reviews on The Rock Nudes but was really interested in it because of the colours. Although they don’t quite look like nudes to me, the shadows in this palette do look really cool with the range of shimmer, glitter, and matte finishes.

Maybelline The Rock Nudes Palette

Maybelline The Rock Nudes Palette

The Maybelline The Rock Nudes palette looks incredible at first glance. I absolutely love the shades, especially the super glittery ones. Shades 2, 3, 5, 6, and 10 are super glittery and shimmery and have similar looks to some of the shadows I love in the Urban Decay Smoked palette, which I reviewed here. There are also really nice matte shadows that are great for bases, and some classic dark mattes that work well for smoky eye looks. With the range of dark colours and glitter it definitely doesn’t seem like a nude palette to me, but I guess it just went better with the collection to call it The Rock Nudes.

MoYou London Tropical Nail Art ft. Essie Find Me An Oasis

Today I have some cute blue MoYou London tropical nail art to show you. I was in the mood for something fresh and floral for Spring and was hoping it would will away the cold weather we have been having. It actually might have worked since it went from about 3 degrees to 10 in the last day.

This is my first nail art design using MoYou London stamping plates. My mom picked a few up at Trade Secrets a few weeks ago and I have played with them here and there but never did a full manicure until this one. I loved the tropical plate for the fun floral designs and I think it went really nicely with the blue hues I used.

The base nail polish colour for my MoYou London tropical nail art is Essie ‘Find Me An Oasis’ and it was the name of this polish that sparked the idea to do a tropical floral design. ‘Find Me An Oasis’ is a super light blue that can look very pale and almost white in some lights. It is a really nice colour and I liked the lightness and softness of it on it’s own.

I used The Body Shop Colour Crush nail polish  ‘Mad About Blue’ to stamp the design. I wasn’t sure if that polish would work to stamp but it did just fine and I am pleased with the result. I love the contrast of the two shades of blue nail polish and overall felt like this was a cute and fresh look. I didn’t even mind that my nails are kind of short because this worked well with their length. My favourite one is the pinky finger where only the flower shows up and no leaves or other pieces of the design.

So there you have it – super simple MoYou London tropical nail art using Essie ‘Find Me An Oasis’ as a base colour. Easy and bright and it brought me a little sunshine this week!

Urban Decay Smoked Palette Swatches and Review

The other day I rediscovered one of my old favourite eye shadow palettes. The Urban Decay Smoked Palette was one of the very first ones I purchased and I fell in love with it immediately. The colours are amazing and it has so many great shadows for smoky looks and dramatic looks.

Most of the shadows in the Urban Decay Smoked palette are pretty smooth and buttery to apply, but a few are a little drier than others. In this palette there are matte shadows and shimmer ones and I liked having the matte ones there to balance out the bolder shades. The matte ones are much chalkier than the shimmery shadows and I had a little more difficulty blending those ones.

The top row of this palette is as follows:

Top row swatches of the Urban Decay Smoked Palette

Top row swatches of the Urban Decay Smoked Palette from L-R: Kinky, Freestyle, Mushroom, Backdoor, Blackout

  • Kinky: Matte ivory shadow, a little chalky to apply but great for base and highlight. It looks white in my photos but it has a more ivory beige tone in real life.
  • Freestyle: Matte beige shadow, less chalky than Kinky and great smoothness to apply.
  • Mushroom: Shimmery greige shadow that is one of the drier shimmer shades but still applies nicely.
  • Backdoor: Dark brown matte with a hint of charcoal to it. It looks darker in the swatch than it does in the pan.
  • Blackout: Deep black matte that applies smoothly and had a great soft texture for a matte shadow.

The bottom row of this palette includes the following:

  • Barlust: Shimmery brown shadow with golden red hints. This one reminds me a little bit of the red shade of the MAC Club duochrome shadow.
  • Rockstar: Dark purple shimmer that runs just on the line of plum. This one applied amazingly and was super smooth.
  • Evidence: Medium navy blue shimmer shadow that was the most dry of the shimmer ones. Once you get it on it looks great but it was the most difficult shimmer shadow to apply out of the bunch.
  • Loaded: Dark green shimmer that has a slight black hint. It is very dark in the swatch but it had a great shimmer and the green really does show up nicely.
  • Asphalt: Dark grey shimmer that is super buttery to apply. The shimmer on this one is lovely and it really picks up nicely in the right lighting.

In general the variety of shadows is great and I love the pops of colour, especially Rockstar, Evidence, and Loaded. This palette also comes with a little lookbook with how-to’s for quite a few different smoky eye looks. I like the different styles in the book and it has everything from a classic smoky eye to a super colourful bright ones.

This is the palette I always take with me on weekend getaways or when I travel since I know I can get a wide range of looks with just a small palette. It has a zipper closure that makes it even better to travel with and it comes with the classic Perversion eyeliner so I have all the basics in one case. The Urban Decay Smoked palette has a lot of options for both beginner and advance smoky eyes and is a great staple for any makeup collection.

Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points Haul ft. Urban Decay Naked Smoky

Yesterday I got the ultimate Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum points haul! It was a bonus redemption day so my 50,000 points that would normally value $85 were able to get me $100 instead. I have been eyeing the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette for a long time and this was the perfect time to get the palette, worth $66, for free. To reach the full $100 I was able to add a bunch of other beauty goodies to my haul and ended up getting some great items that I have been dying to try.

Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points Haul ft. CoverGirl, Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette, Essence Cosmetics, and more!

My recent Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum points haul ft. CoverGirl mascara, the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette, Essence Cosmetics mascara, and more!

In my Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum points haul I got the following items:

  • Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette: $66
  • CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara: Normally $10.99, on sale for $7.99
  • CoverGirl Bombshell Powder Brow & Liner: Normally $10.99, on sale for $7.99

The total of those items at the sale price was just over $100, and with the Optimum bonus I only had to pay the tax. I ended up spending only $17 on a ton of items that would normally cost over $100! That is crazy! My Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum points haul was a huge success and I am thrilled with everything I got.

I had been wanting to try the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara to compare it to the Lash Princess Volume Mascara which I love. You can see my review on that here. The Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette is a huge deal itself because when else can you get that iconic palette for under $20? The rest of the items are either essentials (like the hand soap and Nivea lip balms) or items I have been curious about for a while but just hadn’t purchased.
