Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette

A few weeks ago I posted about the Too Faced Sweeter Side of Sexy Set that I got for an awesome deal. It included 4 full size Too Faced products, including the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette. The whole set of 4 pieces was less than the palette itself on the Too Faced website, so it was a great deal for me. Today I want to show you the swatches of the gorgeous Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette and take a closer look.

Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette

The one thing I had in the back of my mind when I got the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette was the chocolate scent. I am not a huge chocolate fan in real life and wondered if I would like, or even notice, the famous chocolate scent that the shadows have. I have never had scented eyeshadow before but I had heard so much about this and was super curious. When I finally got the palette and opened it I was pleasantly surprised. You can really smell the chocolate! The reviews weren’t exaggerating – the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette really does have a delicious chocolate scent to it. I couldn’t believe how accurate it smelled or how good it really was!

Aside from the yummy scent of the palette, the shadows included have some great shade variety. There are highlight shades like beige and pale gold shimmers, as well as darker chocolate browns, and even a blue. The wide variety in the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette make it a great palette for day and night, and it isn’t specific to any season or skin tone. There are a total of 16 shades in the palette, with 2 being in larger pans. These seem to be the most classic highlight shades which would be able to be used with any combination of the other colours.

Essie Aim to Misbehave 1000th Shade

I have been posting a lot of nail polish posts lately, including strawberry nail art, a perfect mermaid nail colour, and my recent Julep Maven box, but this polish post is something extra special.

This year Essie released their 1000th shade of nail polish and it is a stunner. Essie Aim to Misbehave is a golden yellow shimmery shade that is super bright and bold. It definitely is a unique shade to celebrate this milestone and I had to make sure I didn’t miss out on such a special polish. Although most of my Essie polishes are classic hues like pink, red, or lighter shades, this yellow polish is a total standout. I don’t own very many yellow polishes and the few that I do are just plain creme yellows, so this shimmery golden one is unique to my collection.

Essie Aim to Misbehave – the 1000th Essie nail polish!

Essie Aim to Misbehave looks gorgeous in the bottle and eve better on the nail. The classic bottle has been decorated with a celebratory cap, which I really like. The polish took me two coats to get a perfect colour payoff. I really like Essie brushes and find that they work well for my nail size. With the brush and the smooth, opaque formula this polish was a breeze to apply.

Simple strawberry nail art

Today I have some really cute nail art to show you. I have often seen these nails on Pinterest and always wanted to try them myself, so I decided it was now or never. Just in time for summer I did some simple strawberry nail art, and I was surprised at how easy it was! The design looks a little tricky at first glance, and seeing all the amazing photos on Pinterest was a little intimidating, but this nail art look was actually really simple.

Julep Phoebe is the perfect mermaid nail polish shade

Julep Phoebe is the perfect mermaid nail polish shade. This is pretty much a fact and once you see the polish you will totally agree.

I have been wearing this nail polish for almost a full week which is something I never do. I always get bored of a colour too quickly and change my nail polish very frequently. It is a shock if I can last more than three days with the same shade on my nails, so to be hitting seven days with Julep Phoebe is a big deal. I just got some great polishes in my June Julep Maven box, but I still reach for Phoebe for a fun summer mermaid shade.

Julep Phoebe is a gorgeous metallic green that leans a little to the teal side. It is super bright and bold and it a colour that you will keep looking at. In every light I kept checking out my nails and even after multiple days of wear it was just as stunning as the first day. I got a ton of comments and compliments on my nails while I was wearing Julep Phoebe.

Feeling Tropical with simple Floral Nail Art

Last week I posted a zebra print nail art design for the #31dc2016weekly nail art Instagram tag, and this week I have another installment to show you. The theme for this week’s prompt was flowers, so I did a pretty pink and white floral nail art design. It took hardly any time at all but it looks really cute and tropical, which is perfect for a summer weekend!

You can see some of my previous nail art designs over on my Instagram account here!

What I used

The floral nail art I have to show you today was done with a MoYou London stamping plate. This plate if from the Tropical Collection and I chose a big Hawaiian flower to stamp. My base polish is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in the shade OMGhost, which is a crisp white. It took me two coats to get perfectly opaque white nails. I have recently become a big fan of white nails and left them plain for a few hours before adding my floral nail art on top.

Another look at my floral nail art design

The nail polish I used to stamp the flowers over my white base was China Glaze Winter Berry, which is a lovely berry red from an old holiday collection. I love this shade on my nails and will have to swatch it soon to show you. I promise it is a red polish in real life, but when I stamped it for my floral nail art it totally turned pink. I think it might be because it was such a thin layer used to stamp, and it was layered over a bright white base. Either way, the floral nail art design worked well with pink flowers so it still turned out fine even though I meant for it to be red.

I have actually used this MoYou London stamping plate for a different floral nail art look a few weeks ago, which you can check out here.

What do you think of my white and pink/red floral nail art? I like how tropical it looks and it makes me think of a Hawaiian vacation, which is nice to daydream about when it looks like I will have a few rainy days ahead of me.

Julep Maven June 2016 box review

Another new month, another Julep Maven box! June has just begun and I have been really loving the hot weather we have gotten lately. I have also been loving my Julep Maven boxes since I started getting them back in April, and today I have the Julep Maven June 2016 box to show you. In this one I got two nail polishes and a Skip The Brush cream to powder blush stick.

My Julep Maven June 2016 box

My Julep Maven June 2016 box

I personally prefer to choose what items I get in my Julep boxes, as opposed to picking one of the pre-made Julep Maven June 2016 box selections. The selections are nice and I would be happy to get them, but I always like picking each item out myself. Sometimes I am feeling more nail polish and sometimes I like the beauty products. This month I was really interested in the Skip The Brush cream to powder blush, but I wasn’t sure the shades in the pre-selected box would suit me, so I made sure to pick that out in a shade that would work with my skin tone. I also chose two pretty polishes that were different than what I have been wearing recently.

Unboxing my first Babe Box

Have you heard of the newest beauty subscription box? Babe Box is a Canadian company that I discovered on Instagram a few months ago. They are a new brand that offers a beauty subscription box that arrives at your door each month with some fun goodies. I ordered the very first Babe Box they offered back in May, and here it is to show you!

I already subscribe to the monthly Julep Maven boxes, which have nail polish and beauty products, but I was curious about this new beauty box too. I love my Julep Maven boxes and have reviews them in April and May.

The neat thing about Babe Box is that it doesn’t only have one type of product. There are beauty, nail, hair and other items included which give it a nice variety.

Review: CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara

After falling in love with the recent CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick launch I knew my next post would have to be this one. A while ago I bought the CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara and although the brush looks pretty intimidating I was dying to try it. I didn’t pull out a protractor to measure the claim of 50% more volume, but this mascara really did deliver on long, lush lashes.

The unique brush of the CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara

The unique brush of the CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara

The CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara has one of the funkiest brushes you will ever see. It is super stiff and has all kinds of turns and angles which can be dangerous when working so close to your eyes. I have poked myself once or twice with this wand but if you are careful with it you can work magic. Like I said, it is is super stiff and the bristles are hard plastic, but they divide and conquer lashes with ease. I got tons of length and definition with this funky wand and I really love the result.

Julep Pepper Zebra Print Nail Art

I recently got my May Julep Maven box and I really loved all of the polishes I got in it, especially this gorgeous cornflower blue with silver shimmer called Pepper. You can see photos of all 6 polishes I got in the box in my post, but today I am focusing on Pepper alone. I did some really fun stamping to get this Julep Pepper zebra print nail art look and I am really happy with it.

The incredible shade of Julep Pepper, a lovely cornflower blue with multidimensional shimmer

The incredible shade of Julep Pepper, a lovely cornflower blue with multidimensional shimmer

Pepper has quickly become one of my all-time favourite nail polish shades. It has an incredible multidimensional silver shimmer to it that looks like flecks of metal. The flecks are super tiny so they blend in seamlessly and create a really unique look. The colour is a gorgeous blue/indigo/purple hue that catches the light in a bunch of different ways. It was super hard to photograph this right because it really does look different in all lighting. Sometimes it leans more blue or purple, and other times it has an almost holographic quality to it. I enjoyed wearing Pepper alone for a a few days before I did my Julep Pepper zebra print nail art.

Yes, I have over 500 bottles of nail polish…

When I say I am obsessed with nail polish I really mean it. I know it sounds crazy (and yes, I know it kind of is) but I own over 500 bottles of nail polish. Each and every one is a different colour, finish, and style. They may look like twenty of the same red polish to everyone else but I can tell them all apart.

Since it would take a lot of space on my floor to show you all of my polishes I decided to start by showing one brand at a time. Today I have my Zoya polishes to show you, which I arranged in a cute little rainbow arrangement. This is almost all of the Zoya ones I own, but a few of them didn’t make the photo. I recently moved cities and everything is in boxes all over the place so I have a few stray polishes that didn’t make it in the first trip, but this pretty much sums up my Zoya collection. There are 35 pictured here and Zoya is one of the brands I own the least of because it is harder to get in Canada.
