MoYou London Tropical Nail Art ft. Essie Find Me An Oasis

Today I have some cute blue MoYou London tropical nail art to show you. I was in the mood for something fresh and floral for Spring and was hoping it would will away the cold weather we have been having. It actually might have worked since it went from about 3 degrees to 10 in the last day.

This is my first nail art design using MoYou London stamping plates. My mom picked a few up at Trade Secrets a few weeks ago and I have played with them here and there but never did a full manicure until this one. I loved the tropical plate for the fun floral designs and I think it went really nicely with the blue hues I used.

The base nail polish colour for my MoYou London tropical nail art is Essie ‘Find Me An Oasis’ and it was the name of this polish that sparked the idea to do a tropical floral design. ‘Find Me An Oasis’ is a super light blue that can look very pale and almost white in some lights. It is a really nice colour and I liked the lightness and softness of it on it’s own.

I used The Body Shop Colour Crush nail polish  ‘Mad About Blue’ to stamp the design. I wasn’t sure if that polish would work to stamp but it did just fine and I am pleased with the result. I love the contrast of the two shades of blue nail polish and overall felt like this was a cute and fresh look. I didn’t even mind that my nails are kind of short because this worked well with their length. My favourite one is the pinky finger where only the flower shows up and no leaves or other pieces of the design.

So there you have it – super simple MoYou London tropical nail art using Essie ‘Find Me An Oasis’ as a base colour. Easy and bright and it brought me a little sunshine this week!

Urban Decay Smoked Palette Swatches and Review

The other day I rediscovered one of my old favourite eye shadow palettes. The Urban Decay Smoked Palette was one of the very first ones I purchased and I fell in love with it immediately. The colours are amazing and it has so many great shadows for smoky looks and dramatic looks.

Most of the shadows in the Urban Decay Smoked palette are pretty smooth and buttery to apply, but a few are a little drier than others. In this palette there are matte shadows and shimmer ones and I liked having the matte ones there to balance out the bolder shades. The matte ones are much chalkier than the shimmery shadows and I had a little more difficulty blending those ones.

The top row of this palette is as follows:

  • Kinky: Matte ivory shadow, a little chalky to apply but great for base and highlight. It looks white in my photos but it has a more ivory beige tone in real life.
  • Freestyle: Matte beige shadow, less chalky than Kinky and great smoothness to apply.
  • Mushroom: Shimmery greige shadow that is one of the drier shimmer shades but still applies nicely.
  • Backdoor: Dark brown matte with a hint of charcoal to it. It looks darker in the swatch than it does in the pan.
  • Blackout: Deep black matte that applies smoothly and had a great soft texture for a matte shadow.

The bottom row of this palette includes the following:

  • Barlust: Shimmery brown shadow with golden red hints. This one reminds me a little bit of the red shade of the MAC Club duochrome shadow.
  • Rockstar: Dark purple shimmer that runs just on the line of plum. This one applied amazingly and was super smooth.
  • Evidence: Medium navy blue shimmer shadow that was the most dry of the shimmer ones. Once you get it on it looks great but it was the most difficult shimmer shadow to apply out of the bunch.
  • Loaded: Dark green shimmer that has a slight black hint. It is very dark in the swatch but it had a great shimmer and the green really does show up nicely.
  • Asphalt: Dark grey shimmer that is super buttery to apply. The shimmer on this one is lovely and it really picks up nicely in the right lighting.

In general the variety of shadows is great and I love the pops of colour, especially Rockstar, Evidence, and Loaded. This palette also comes with a little lookbook with how-to’s for quite a few different smoky eye looks. I like the different styles in the book and it has everything from a classic smoky eye to a super colourful bright ones.

This is the palette I always take with me on weekend getaways or when I travel since I know I can get a wide range of looks with just a small palette. It has a zipper closure that makes it even better to travel with and it comes with the classic Perversion eyeliner so I have all the basics in one case. The Urban Decay Smoked palette has a lot of options for both beginner and advance smoky eyes and is a great staple for any makeup collection.

Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points Haul ft. Urban Decay Naked Smoky

Yesterday I got the ultimate Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum points haul! It was a bonus redemption day so my 50,000 points that would normally value $85 were able to get me $100 instead. I have been eyeing the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette for a long time and this was the perfect time to get the palette, worth $66, for free. To reach the full $100 I was able to add a bunch of other beauty goodies to my haul and ended up getting some great items that I have been dying to try.

Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points Haul ft. CoverGirl, Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette, Essence Cosmetics, and more!

My recent Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum points haul ft. CoverGirl mascara, the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette, Essence Cosmetics mascara, and more!

In my Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum points haul I got the following items:

  • Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette: $66
  • CoverGirl Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara: Normally $10.99, on sale for $7.99
  • CoverGirl Bombshell Powder Brow & Liner: Normally $10.99, on sale for $7.99
  • Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara: $4.99
  • Essence Liquid Eyeliner: $3.99
  • Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm: Normally $4.99, on sale for $3.99
  • Softsoap Wild Basil and Lime Soap: Normally $4.99, on sale for $3.99
  • New York Color Smooch-Proof Lip Stain: Normally $5.99, on sale for $4.99

The total of those items at the sale price was just over $100, and with the Optimum bonus I only had to pay the tax. I ended up spending only $17 on a ton of items that would normally cost over $100! That is crazy! My Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum points haul was a huge success and I am thrilled with everything I got.

I had been wanting to try the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara to compare it to the Lash Princess Volume Mascara which I love. You can see my review on that here. The Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette is a huge deal itself because when else can you get that iconic palette for under $20? The rest of the items are either essentials (like the hand soap and Nivea lip balms) or items I have been curious about for a while but just hadn’t purchased.

Review: Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara

The first thing that drew me to the Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara was the adorable packaging. The tube has a really cute corset design at the top and it is super pretty. The second thing that appealed to me was the price – $4.99. With those two factors and my Shoppers Optimum card in hand I was sold!

The Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara was pretty much just a purchase I made on a whim because it looked super cute, but man am I glad I got it! This mascara is amazing and with one single coat I had great lashes. It was so cheap that I worried there would be nothing to it but it totally delivered. I got long dark lashes with no clumps. The brush is neat and has a curve to it, which I really like. With a great wand and a great formula this has turned into one of my favourite mascaras.

You can see for yourself the difference between my bare lashes and one coat of mascara. I didn’t use a curler on them before applying the mascara so any volume you see is completely from the mascara.

My lashes look like I have a completely full fringe and I can’t stop checking them out in the mirror. It really looks like I have a ton of lashes and I definitely don’t have that effect all the time. For a mascara that was under $5 this was a total steal. Long, dark, defined full lashes – what more could you want for a five dollar bill?

There is a Lash Princess False Effect Mascara but it was sold out when I was shopping. I wonder if that one would be even better than this one so I might have to check it out one day.

Have you tried the Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara or any other one from Essence Cosmetics?

Julep Maven April 2016 Nail Polish Subscription Box Review

Today I have the Julep Maven April 2016 box to show you. This month I got the ‘It Girl’ box, which contained all nail polish and no cosmetics. I chose this one on purpose because I was really excited about the new Vivid Sheer nail polishes.

The new Julep Vivid Sheer line of polishes are translucent shades that look almost like a jelly. They remind me of popsicles and they come in bright bold hues. In the Julep Maven April 2016 box I got three of the Vivid Sheer nail polishes and a plain white polish. The white polish was Brigitte, and it was intended to go under the sheer colours to give them more of a pop.

The three Vivid Sheer nail polishes included in this box were Shanna, Ari, and Delaney.

  • Shanna is a perfect bold grape hue that just screams summer to me.
  • Ari is a hot pink fuchsia shade that looks super juicy.
  • Delaney is a super bright ocean blue that looks like something you would see in the Caribbean.

They all look a lot darker in the bottle, especially Shanna and Delaney, so I was surprised when I first swatched them and saw how bright they are.

On their own these polishes are definitely sheer and give just a light soft touch of colour. With the white underneath they really pop out and become so bright and bold. I already have some great nail art ideas for some white space manicures that these would look great with.

I am really happy with the Julep Maven April 2016 box and look forward to seeing what I get next month!

You can see the difference between the plain Vivid Sheers and the ones with Brigitte underneath. My preference is definitely with the white base but all three polishes are really nice on their own. Have you tried any of the new Julep Vivid Sheer nail polishes? Let me know what your favourite shade is!
